What each subscription has cost you so far

Every row gets a Paid to date figure: what that service has charged, from its first charge up to today, counted the same way as your spend totals. It takes the place of the Started column, and its start month moves into the note under the amount.

The figure is already computed today, but you only see it when you open a group of earlier runs. Use Current in the toolbar to compare. Sort by the new column to see which services have cost you the most.

How the figure is counted

  1. The same count as your totals. It adds up every charge from the start date up to and including today, using the same rule as spend: a yearly plan counts in full on the day it charges. A charge due today counts.
  2. A service counts all its runs. If Netflix was cancelled and restarted, its row shows the total for every run. Opening the group shows how that splits: this run, then each earlier run, and the lifetime line adds them up.
  3. Free until the first charge. Trials and plans that haven't started yet show €0.00 and say why, instead of a dash.
  4. Unknown stays unknown. A row restored from an old backup may have no start date, so there's no honest total. It shows “—” and “start date unknown”. A group with any such run is unknown as a whole, rather than showing a partial sum as if it were the total.
  5. Stopped plans show a range. A paused or cancelled plan's note reads “Mar 2024 – Jun 2026”, so it's clear the figure has stopped growing.

Behaviour

  • Sorting starts with the most paid. The first click or tap on Paid sorts largest first, because that's the question people ask. Unknown figures always go last, whichever direction you sort.
  • Search finds the amount. Try 895.
  • On mobile, the row gets a third line (“€895.35 paid since Mar 2020”) and the chip row gets Paid. Tap a row to see the detail sheet: “Paid to date” is the service total, and a group adds a “This run” line.
  • Nothing else changes. The figure is ink, never red, because it's a record, not a coming charge. The KPIs, totals, trend and Coming up are untouched.

Open questions

  • Header label: Paid to date (proposed) or Lifetime, the word the issue and the group line use?
  • A group with one unknown run: keep “—”, or show “at least €X”? The mock keeps “—”, the same as the lifetime line does today.
  • Started moves into the note as a month and year. The exact day is still in Edit and in the mobile sheet. Is that enough?
